Leadership
Learn to lead in your own way!

LEAP students develop confidence and find their own leadership style.
The Curriculum is made up of lessons, activities and reflection that develop skills for better communication, thoughtful decision making, an awareness of one`s abilities, conflict resolution, coping with adversity and uncertainty, goal setting and vision. Concepts are introduced at different stages, applied through active participation and experience, and further developed.
1. Prepare to Leap
A course first focuses on group goals like contributing to a positive learning environment, respect and collaboration, care for self and others, and group tasks. Students build mutual trust through team challenges, short hikes and adventure activities. Instructors teach from the front and introduce outdoor living skills like tent setting, campsite safety, navigation and first aid.

2. Take the Leap
Students show competence in outdoor living skills and learn to cook for themselves and the group. Individuals practice decision making and judgement in practical situations. A leader of the day allocates tasks, plans hikes, navigates, considers weather, identifies risks, plans contingencies, briefs action steps and debriefs outcomes. Instructors transition to consulting students.
3. Make the Leap
Participants transition to independence. They are self-sufficient and can travel safely in the outdoors. Different group members lead different aspects of daily life. Leaders of the day may independently lead planned hiking routes, with instructors strategically placed at observation checkpoints. Students reflect on how their leadership experience transfers to everyday life.
